Important update – Industrial action at RMIT

Potential delay to release of final course results
All RMIT students are advised that, due to industrial action, there may be a delay to the publishing of some students’ final course results (grades) released on or after 28 May 2024. Find out more.

Industrial action will be taking place from 12:30pm on Thursday 13 June until 11:59pm on Friday 14 June.

Last updated: 10am Tuesday 4 June 2024

RMIT is in the process of renegotiating new enterprise agreements – a legal document that outlines the terms and conditions of employment between an employer and their employees.

The University has been advised that some staff members who are members of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) may participate in work stoppages from 12:30pm on Thursday 13 June until 11:59pm on Friday 14 June.

As we are not always able to know the impact of industrial action until it takes place, we unfortunately may not be able to tell you in advance if your classes and/or assessments scheduled on the afternoon of Thursday 13 June and on Friday 14 June are affected.

What do I need to do?

There is no action that you need to take. Please assume that your classes and/or assessments will go ahead as normal next week, unless you’ve been told otherwise directly from your teacher, program or course coordinator, or updated on Canvas.

RMIT’s City, Bundoora and Brunswick campuses will remain open. Student services, such as our Libraries, Student Connect and Job Shop, will remain open. However, there may be delays and reduced services, including to one-on-one study support consultations and Ask the Library webchat. Access to online Library resources will remain available. All further updates will be shared as updates to this article.

If you do have classes and/or assessments that are affected, your program or course coordinator will let you know of alternative arrangements as soon as possible.

For Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, please contact your HDR Coordinator/Delegated Authority to understand any impacts (such as access to supervisors and/or laboratories).

Safety and security

RMIT's primary concern is the health and safety of its students, staff and other members of the public attending campus during times of industrial action.

RMIT community members participating in industrial action on campus must do so in a way that does not risk the safety of students, staff and the public.

Please listen to the direction and guidance of RMIT’s security staff. If you have any concerns, such as with access to buildings, please reach out to Campus Security.

Help and support

We thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this time.

We are committed to continuing to bargain in good faith to get the right outcomes for our community, as we work hard to finalise our agreements.

We will let you know if we receive any further information and please be assured that we have plans in place to ensure minimal disruption to your learning.

Questions?

If you have any questions about how this industrial action may impact your classes, please reach out to your program or course coordinator. Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students can contact their HDR Coordinator/Delegated Authority for any queries.

If the NTEU plans further industrial action, students will be notified via student email and the student website. Please continue to check your RMIT student email and the student homepage regularly to stay informed.
